The Ubiquilight mission is to offer product developers the lowest-cost, most compact fiber lasers in wavelengths beyond 1700nm for high-volume applications. Ubiquilight lasers perform exceptionally well in sensing applications in many industries including the medical, environmental and petrochemical sectors and are superior to semiconductor diode lasers for many of these applications.

Semiconductor diode lasers continue to play a role in information age advances, enabling products ranging from long haul telecommunications systems to low-cost laser printers and optical disk drives. Still, limitations in fabrication technology predominantly contain semiconductor lasers to applications in wavelengths shorter than 1700nm. As a result, semiconductor diode laser penetration into mid-infrared device markets has been limited.

By contrast, fiber lasers offer a robust alternative to semiconductor lasers for sensing applications.

Fiber lasers penetrate applications requiring spectral ranges beyond 1700nm by consistently producing astounding power levels with high beam quality. This capability allows fiber laser use in specialized Industrial and medical applications such as laser cutting, welding and surgery. Yet, downsizing fiber laser devices to ubiquitous applications where power demands and cost requirements are more modest has remained an unmet challenge.
